While many supplies and materials will be freeley shared with guests, The visual process will begin in advance of the salon as each member gathers inspiration, ideas, imagery, small personal objects, and textiles for our women of the cloth. On Wednesday evening we will gather at 6:30 to share food and make a toast to Imagination. After this we will begin sculpting our masks utilizing innovative push molds and air dry or polymer clays. We will then personalizing these masks with rendering and sculpting techniques. For those not interested in the sculpting process: 1. A variety of porcelain faces will be available for purchase. 2. You may bring a mask or head of your choice to work with during the design process this evening. 3. Prepare your armature for the next day. All participants will be provided with a pvc/wire/aluminum foil armature wrapped with batting measuring approximately 24" tall by 4" wide. Techniques highlighted throughout the salon will be: 1. Exploring the art of creating artful icons rich with personal story, through communication and group discussion. 2. Innovative, fast, and easy sculpting techniques. 1. Creating art cloth using water soluble stabilizer, fibers, cloth, and machine sewing. 2. The ancient art of Nuno felting using wool, silk, art yarns, and angelina fibers on hand dyed silk gauze and organza. 3. Fusing and layering fiber, paper, texture, and art yarns with a wide assortment of fusibles. 4. Creative Repousse techniques using textile stamps from India. Imagine~Arte participants will be encouraged to explore any of the techniques shared at their own pace, and may prefer to focus on one of the fiber art techniques to create a larger piece of cloth for their story doll, while making smaller sample pieces of some of the techniques shared during the salon.
